Shellby Brand
There have been some stunning pieces of marquetry made this year under the guidance of Mark Smith. This side table with flower marquetry is by Shellby Brand.
Jade Milne
"My design, in short, is my own interpretation of a coffee table by Danish designer Grete Jalk.
I was also inspired by Ariele Alasko's use of shapes and line and I chose to use these in the form and structure of my table, as opposed to using them as surface pattern like Ariele Alasko."

Jade has just completed the HNC at Adam Smith College and is going on to the HND next year.

"I drew many, many chairs all different shapes and sizes, after studying them I chose one that reminded me of a set of chairs I have at home. I wanted a curvaceous chair and also to try steam bending." Ben Snape.

Gary Duffy
"After research into art movements I found that I was heavily influenced by the Bauhaus and this has come out in my design work. I drew inspiration from Gerrit Rietveld's "Red and Blue Chair" and "The ZigZag Chair."
"I decided to use two contrasting woods (Oak & Ash) to construct the chair. The back slots onto the seat and the seat was then finger jointed to the front leg panel. The legs where constructed by using through mortice and tenon joints and then these where then housing jointed to the rest of the frame.
In the future I plan to start up a business with Christopher Mckimmie".

"This chair is a rocking chair inspired by a young designer named Brendan Gallagher. With the aid of Auto CAD I was able to create a 1 to 1 full scale drawing which I used as a template for the curved work . The timber I used was ash with elm (in the contrast). I would like to make many more of these in the future playing with other timber combos and finishing techniques. I'm very pleased with this project especially as it’s one of my first pieces." Christopher McKimmie
"I have completed my HND in furniture at Adam Smith College and have just been offered a tutoring position with the city of Edinburgh council, teaching adults the basics off woodwork and furniture which I am very excited about. Plans are also in place to start up a small business working with fellow college buddy Gary Duffy."

Davy Gibb
The design I planned to make was quite different from what I ended up producing. Due to the fact that I found these two lovely pieces of timber and wanted to let the character of the wood speak for its self." Davy Gibb
Davy Gibb's work is exhibited at Adam Smith College, Kirkcaldy from June 13th - 17th 2013.

Hidden Chair by Benoit Convers
Playing with our expectations Benoit Convers has taken three classic chair deigns and redesigned them inverting them with their silhouette so that they challenge our logic and understanding. Fantastic in their shock value please watch the film.
